‘This is a new type of exhibition introduced by the Museum – the idea of small ‘vignette’ exhibitions that build on our permanent collection and give visitors the opportunity to understand the permanent exhibit within a richer historical context, by providing information on other related individuals and events of antiquity’.

Dimitrios Pandermalis is talking about the first temporary exhibition of the Acropolis Museum ‘Pericles, Son of Xanthippos’ that opened on 20 June, 2010 and runs through 31 January, 2011.

Paris 1900, Art Nouveau and Modernism. Treasures from the Petit Palais.

National Gallery, 24 November 2010 - 28 February 2011
The exhibition “PARIS 1900, Art Nouveau and Modernism - Treasures from the Petit Palais, City of Paris Fine Art Museum” to open its doors at the National Gallery on 22 November 2010, transports us to the French capital of the Belle Époque through works of French art from the collections of the Petit Palais, with their unique evocation of the bourgeois and lower-class Paris of the 1880-1914 period.
This reciprocal exhibition, organised in return for the exhibition “Mount Athos and the Byzantine Empire – Treasures from the Holy Mountain”, which went on display at the Petit Palais in 2009, comprises 11 thematic sections featuring a total of some 200 exhibits.
The first section is dedicated to the Exposition Universelle, the World Fair held in Paris in 1900, for which Petit Palais itself was erected.
The second section comprises paintings from the Greek participation to the Exposition Universelle of 1900 from the National Gallery collections and private collections.

World AIDS Day observed throughout Greece

World AIDS Day, observed on December 1 each year, was marked throughout Greece with public awareness campaigns on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Informational material and condoms were given out by NGO volunteers and actors at several spots throughout Athens, who also shared out "FreeHugs" to passers-by in a move aimed to eliminate social racism against HIV carriers and to stress the fact that HIV is not communicated through social contact.
Similar events were held throughout the country.
