BIOLMIEL Mar del Plata 2011

The fourth edition of the International Prize BIOLMIEL will be held from 30 of September to the 2nd of October 2011 in Mar del Plata, Argentina (Buenos Aires province), few days after the “Apimondia” world congress, that will be held in Buenos Aires a week before.
The event will be held at the ”Estadio Mundialista José María Minella", within the international exhibition “Feria Internacional de Agroalimentos Orgánicos”.
This edition is organized by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, by Fundación Qualitas, by the Argentinean  Ministry of Agriculture and by Icea,  Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale, with the cooperation of C.i.Bi, owner of BIOL trademark,  and CRA - Honeybee and Silkworm Research Unit (Bologna).
Also for this edition organic honeys, certified according to EC or foreign standards, mono and polifloral, will be tasted by a qualified international jury, after being analyzed for water and hydroxymethylfurfural content.
Participation to the prize is, as usual, completely free.

Eligible Honeys
To the competition are admitted samples of honey:
  • Organic of Italian origin certified according to EC Reg. 2092/91 and following amendments;
  • Organic of foreign origin certified according to EC Reg. 2092/91 and following amendments;
  • With a water content lower than 18%o;
  • With a content of hydroxymethilfurfural (HMF) lower than 10 mg/kg.; 15 mg/kg for the heather and tropical honeys.
Samples of honey that meets the requirements will be evaluated within the required category (unifloral, polifloral or honeydew).
The prizes
  • BIOLMIEL PRIZES for the best organic honeys in the world, based on categories(unifloral and/or multifloral)
  • BIOLMIEL PACK prize assigned to the best packaging, meaning the best design and best and more exhaustive labelling.
