Καπνός | Tobacco

101 notes on oriental tobacco
The exhibition «ΚΑΠΝΟΣ | TOBACCO» views oriental tobacco from a variety of historical perspectives and presents it as a multifaceted commercial product. From the needles used in the stringing of the leaves, the spiking process in the villages, the ‘tonga’ process for bundling tobacco leaves and the wooden chests used in commercial processing, to the imposing tobacco warehouses of northern Greece and the intricately made cigarette cases and packs in Athens and Thessaloniki, the exhibition presents the history of tobacco and, through it, an important part of the history of Greece.

Massimo Listri. Photographic Architecture

The exhibition presents a selection of photographs by artist Massimo Listri, which include his iconic prospects of baroque palaces, the neoclassical interiors and Renaissance libraries.
The photographer is based in Florence, and is fascinated how his architectural subject matter allows him to control the composition of his image.
For many years he has photographed classicism devoid of people. More than a simple record of architecture, through his lens Listri rediscovers historical spaces and invites us to examine them afresh.

This exhibition is taking place within the framework of the programme Artists in a dialogue with the Benaki Museum, a collaboration with the British Council, in order for four artists from Greece, Cyprus and the United Kingdom, active in their country’s art scene as well as on the international stage to meet. The artists are called upon to create original works in a dialogue with the Benaki Museum, proposing a different perspective, both of the collections and of the exhibition space.
